The Electric Eel is Latest Eastown Eatery

While there are a number of great places to eat in Eastown, the new Electric Eel is not a place to overlook. Located at 1133 Wealthy Street SE in Grand Rapids, the owner of the already popular Electric Cheetah venture into the world of Asian cuisine. Using fresh ingredients and all natural local meats, the food is available for dine in, take out and delivery.

Offering a variety appetizers including delicious pork & ginger lettuce wraps; noodle and rice dishes that can be customized with various vegetables, proteins and toppings; sushi and frushi (sushi made with fruit instead of seafood); soups and salads; and yummy beverage options like thai iced tea, spiced pear kombucha and ginger/lemon lassi.

Perhaps one of the most distinguishing options at Electric Eel are the desserts. Besides the availability of Cheescake Jake’s available by the slice, there is ice cream. And not just any kind of ice cream- delicious flavored soft serve made with local seasonal fruits, spice, nuts, chocolates, syrups, teas and…bacon? Blu House Received Neighborhood Business Awards Nomination

For the last 20 years, Grand Rapids neighborhood businesses have been eligible for a nomination in a variety of categories for the Neighborhood Business Awards. Sponsored by Neighborhood Ventures and Neighborhood Business Alliance, these awards “celebrate the continual revitalization of the city’s neighborhood business districts through the hard work, perseverance and ingenuity of their business owners and organization leaders.”

For each of the categories there were two winners- the official winner as determined by the NBA comittee, and the people’s choice, as determined by over 800 votes submitted by the general public via Rapid Growth Media’s website. Blu House Properties was nominated for the ‘Best New Business’ Category. And while we didn’t win, we were still honored for the recognition. The winner was the Wired Espresso Bar, a coffee shop that’s open 24/7, located at 1503 Plainfield Ave. NE in the Creston Neighborhood. And the People’s Choice Winner was Commute Bicycle Shop, located at 120 S. Division #125 in the downtown Heartside neighborhood. Jimmy Johns delivers fast in Eastown

Each day I go to work at my Blu House Properties office on Wealthy Street in Eastown and get too busy to eat lunch. I’m overloaded with new listings, buyers and sold properties that I don’t have time to leave the office for lunch. Even though there are 19 restaurants within a 3 Block radius of my office. So I call Jimmy Johns and before I hang up the freaking phone this guy dressed in black with a red J on his cap is standing in my office handing me a sub. It is freaky fast and it blows my mind every time I order lunch from there. So I say thank you to Mr. Jimmy John and wish that he could take over as Governor for the State of Michigan and get some freakiness going in this economy.

I’m so hungry and only have 30 minutes to eat and am stuck in Eastown, where do I go? There are so many good restaurants in Eastown serving ethnic food, American food, specialty meals and more that is hard to decide what to eat at lunch each day. Within 100 yards of the center of Eastown you can find any kind of food or drink that you would want to have. This is truly a privilege and I think the Food Network Channel should do a special on Eastown Eateries and I will host it.
