What was I waiting for? It’s been over three years I’ve lived in beautiful downtown Grand Rapids and not once have I experienced GRAM. The Grand Rapids Art Museum opened its doors October 5, 2007 and is located at 101 Monroe Center NW, facing Rosa Parks Circle. The building is LEED certified, which is a recognized standard that defines high performance green buildings. This constitutes a healthy environment for visitors as well as more environmentally responsible and a more profitable structure. The tri-level gallery includes the permanent collection on the third floor, the Traveling Exhibitions on the second, and the Modern Design and Regional Gallery on the main level. The exhibits on the first and second floors change every 2-3 months. Even if you don’t appreciate art, you can take advantage of this new downtown addition as its Café serves very reasonably priced lunch items from 11am until 3pm and will also hosts special events. The retail shop sells anything from children’s books to Herman Miller furniture. In support of my local neighbors, I picked up a couple earth friendly cards to mail long distance friends. This establishment is absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful place to visit alone, take a date, or bring the whole family. I’m going back!
