Ada, Michigan is a suburb of Grand Rapids, located only about fifteen minutes east from the second largest city in Michigan. Offering a ‘small town’ feel at the corners of Ada Drive and Thornapple River Drive with locally owned shops and restaurants including Godwin’s Hardware, Ada Bike Shop and Grand River Grocery, Ada is also home to the world headquarters of Amway.
Ada was founded in 1821 by Rix Robinson and his trading posts, and by 1837, Ada became established enough to have its own post office. In the 1860′s, the Ada Covered Bridge was constructed across the Thornapple River, which joins into the Grand River a short distance away from the covered bridge. Still standing today, the bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Encompassing parts of six different townships- Ada Township, Cannon Township, Cascade Township, Grand Rapids Township, Grattan Township and Lowell Township, Ada also includes three different school districts. Forest Hills school district makes up the majority of residences in Ada, but parts of Rockford school district and Lowell school district are within Ada boundries.
